Digital Mythologies—Mythological Digitalities is a three-year transnational European research consortium [2022–2024] led by Aalto University Finland in collaboration with IADT Ireland, ASP Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice Poland, VDA Vilnius Academy of Arts Lithuania and AP Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp Belgium.
Digital Mythologies fosters cross-cultural exchange by bringing together diverse perspectives, disciplines, and traditions. Across three years, five countries and multiple disciplines, Digital Mythologies has united researchers, educators, and participant learners to explore mythology’s evolving role in our world today. MythCloud is one of four research outputs from this Digital Mythologies—Mythological Digitalities consortium.
Participants take an interdisciplinary approach, merging design, technology, and the humanities to explore how shared stories shape identity, culture, and collective values.
Over three years, Digital Mythologies engaged more than 135 students and 20 faculty members across Europe in workshops, field trips, and training sessions. These activities examined how universal stories and digital media influence collective understanding and socio-cultural dynamics.
Through workshops, field trips, and training sessions, participants examine how universal stories and digital media shape collective understanding and societal structures. These activities encourage dialogue, experience-sharing, and collaborative exploration, offering new insights into the evolving role of mythology in shaping past, present, and future societies.
Five eight-day workshops, each hosted by a partner institute, formed the core of programme activities. Participants explored mythology through digital tools, blending group research, authorship, visual interpretation, interactive storytelling, and technological experimentation. Themes such as Play, Spirituality, Identity, Nature, and the Body guided their explorations, revealing how storytelling and digital media shape modern societies and cultural frameworks.
Digital Mythologies creates a dynamic transnational learning environment, connecting students, researchers, and practitioners across disciplines. Public symposiums, exhibitions, and immersive events fostering community dialogue and collaborative exploration, offering fresh perspectives on the role of shared stories and mythology in shaping societies past, present, and future.
